Two systems

Square or Clover. We’ll tell you which one fits.

Both take cards, print receipts and track your sales. They suit different counters, and the answer depends on how you sell.

Square

Published pricing, hardware you buy outright, and no long-term contract on the standard setup. Good when you want to be taking cards this week and keep the paperwork light.

  • Coffee shops, food trucks and market stalls
  • Shops that also sell online
  • Service businesses that invoice
  • Anyone starting from zero
Who Square fits

Clover

A countertop or handheld system sold through a payment processor, with rates and a contract negotiated for your business. Good when you have staff, tables, inventory or real volume.

  • Full-service restaurants and bars
  • Retail with inventory to track
  • Businesses with more than one register
  • Higher volume, where negotiated rates matter
Who Clover fits

Neither one is right for everybody. The review looks at your card mix, your volume and how you sell, then says which one we’d put on your counter and why. If what you have now is already the better deal, that’s the answer you get.

Where the money goes

On every card sale, three parties take a cut. Only one of them negotiates.

This is the shape of a processing fee, not your rates. We work out your actual numbers from your statement.

  • Interchange

Goes to the bank that issued your customer’s card. The card networks set it, and it’s the same no matter who processes for you.

    Fixed
  • Card brand fees

Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express charge small fees on every sale. Also the same everywhere.

    Fixed
  • Processor markup

What your processor keeps on top: a percentage plus a few cents per sale, or folded into one flat rate. This is where offers differ, and the part we negotiate.

    Negotiable

The widths are illustrative. Your split depends on the cards your customers use and whether they tap, dip or get keyed in. Other charges, like a PCI non-compliance fee or an equipment lease, show up as separate lines, and we check those too.

The process

Review, answer, setup, support.

The full process
  1. Review

Send last month’s processing statement. A PDF or a clear phone photo works.

  2. Answer

You get your real rate, what you’d pay on Square or Clover instead, and the difference per month. In writing.

  3. Setup

If you switch, we handle hardware, your items and prices, staff logins, a test sale and training.

  4. Support

Questions after you’re running go to the same person who set you up.

What you can hold us to

Six things that are true of every review, whether or not you switch.

  • The review is free

You don’t pay for it, and you don’t have to switch anything to get it.

  • The answer is in writing

What you pay now, what you’d pay instead, and the math in between.

  • Staying put is an answer

If your current setup is cheaper, that’s what we’ll tell you.

  • We read the contract first

Early termination fees and equipment leases go into the comparison before we recommend anything.

  • We tell you how we get paid

When a business signs up through us, the payment company may pay us a referral fee. That’s the whole arrangement.

  • One person, start to finish

The person who reviews your statement is the one who sets you up and answers afterward.

Who we work with

Small businesses that take cards every day.

  • Restaurants and food

Taquerias, cafes, food trucks, bars. Tables, tips and a line out the door at noon.

  • Retail

Boutiques, hardware, feed stores, gift shops. Inventory, barcodes and gift cards.

  • Trades and field service

Plumbers, electricians, HVAC, detailers. Take a card at the job and send invoices from the truck.

  • Suppliers and distributors

Parts counters, wholesalers, B2B sellers. Bigger tickets, business cards and invoices with terms.

Jason Yahner

Owner, Sundial Pay · San Antonio, Texas

Sundial Pay is my company. I’m the one who reads your statement, answers your email and helps you get set up. I also run a subscription software business that takes card payments every month, so I read my own processing statements too. The fees are easy to miss when you’re busy, and they add up.

In San Antonio and the towns around it, setup happens in person. Everywhere else in the US, we do it together over phone and video. More about the company

Common questions

Before you send anything

What does the review cost?

Nothing. When a business signs up through us, the payment company may pay us a referral fee. You never pay us for the review.

Do I have to switch?

No. Plenty of reviews end with “keep what you have.” You still walk away knowing what every fee on your statement means.

Square or Clover: which one will you push?

Neither. We set up both, and the review says which one fits your business and why. Here’s how they compare.

What if I’m in a contract?

We look for an early termination fee before we suggest anything, and we include it in the comparison. Sometimes the right move is to wait until the contract ends.

Do you only work in San Antonio?

No. We’re based in San Antonio and work with businesses anywhere in the US. Local businesses can get in-person setup. Everyone else gets it over phone and video.

Do you work in Mexico?

Not yet. Square doesn’t process payments in Mexico, and we aren’t set up there. If you run a business on both sides of the border, tell us about it. It helps us decide what to build next.

Who will I be talking to?

Jason Yahner, who owns Sundial Pay. There’s no call center.
